At Vetronic Services we are able to offer a range of services to cover the needs of not just Veterinary Surgeons and practices but also the needs of allied electronic businesses looking for specialist skills.

Design - We design products from the ground up so we know the hardware requirements intimately. In addition we have experience in designing for EMC compliance from the outset so that any necessary steps are taken at the design stage. This can save a lot of time and cost later. We have experience in analogue, digital and pcb design using plated-through or surface mount technology.

Not only can we design for EMC compliance but we can test for compliance of the final prototype. This can be at two levels, pre-compliance testing or full compliance testing. This is achieved by our close links with the EMC testing centre at Bideford, North Devon.

Included in our range of specialist skills is the use of embedded microcontrollers, including the Arizona Microchip PIC family. Using state-of-the-art emulation facilities we can build and test a design with these processors without committing to ROM. Software can be easily debugged and checked before release.

For the most efficient compact code, programs are written in assembler language. The new ERM 8010 is an ECG and respiratory monitor built around a PIC microcontroller, which controls all analogue inputs and digital outputs including control of a 122 x 32 pixel graphic display. All display routines are run by the PIC giving complete versatility over what the user sees, whether it is the graphical display or a 4-line text menu. The whole device consumes less than 3 milliamps yet delivers a GUI associated with much larger processing power. By contrast our ET-transmitter units use a smaller PIC for a 2-line alphanumeric display to improve ease of use and to give feedback to the user. This was an improvement over the previous analogue version as it reduced the component count considerably and improved usability.

If you feel we have some skills that your company could use then please feel free to discuss this with Keith Simpson, the manager of Vetronic Services by sending him an e-mail
